Sympetrum sanguineum

 

Sympetrum sanguineum.  (Muller, 1764).  Ruddy Darter.

A similar group of species found throughout Europe, its important features being the black legs,

club shaped abdomen, and the slight yellow blush at the base of both wings. The mature

male is deep red with the immature male and female a pale yellow. Both sexes

feature two distinctive markings at the base of the abdomen.
