Anax parthenope

Anax parthenope.  (Selys, 1839).  Lesser Emperor.

This large aeshnid is common throughout the Mediterranean. Its chief characteristics are

green eyes, blue saddle, dark veins on the wings, and a longish brown pterostigma.

The male’s abdomen is a dull, dark blue, where the female is brown.
